Lucia Valentina Primed For BMW Trip
Meanwhile, Kris Lees expects star mare Lucia Valentina to handle the quick back-up when she lines up alongside stable-mate Protectionist in the Gr1 The BMW (2400m) at Rosehill on Saturday. Last year's Turnbull Stakes winner and Caulfield Cup placegetter has had three runs this prep beginning with the Apollo Stakes (1400m), Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) and last Saturday's Ranvet Stakes (2000m), and Lees feels she is now ready for the 2400 metres. "She gives every indication that she will back up. She's backed up in New Zealand and raced very well," Lees told RSN. "Probably the biggest positive is that we've had a bit of rain so the jar will be out of the track. Had that (the rain) not come I probably would not have run here, but at this stage she's likely to line up."Lees said that Lucia Valentina would have to pull up from Saturday's run in good order to justify a start in the $4 million Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick on 11 April.
