Moore Happy With Designs On Rome For Sheema Classic
John Moore says he is delighted with the condition of star Hong Kong galloper Designs On Rome (Holy Roman Emperor-Summer Trysting, by Alleged) leading into Saturday night's US$6 million Gr1 Dubai Sheema Classic (2400m) at Meydan, reports the South China Morning Post. "I've told the staff not to even weigh him. I don't want to know what the scales say. My father always told me to look at the horse and trust my eye and that's what I'm doing - and to my eye he looks great," Moore said. "He travelled over really well and everything is looking great. We all know that horses drop weight when they travel, but he is putting it back on. He ate most of his meal last night (Wednesday), drank a good lot of water and he looks good - his skin colour is great." Moore says he has no concerns about the 2400 metres of the race, despite Designs On Rome being beaten at his only attempt at the distance. "From what I understand there isn't any speed in the race and a slowly-run race might be more like a 2,000m race than 2,400m as far as stamina goes," Moore said. "I'm not underestimating the opposition - I've just been down in Sydney and seen the Japanese horses there and they are very good. So I'm not underrating Harp Star and Flintshire and the like, and this is a tough race." Designs On Rome's recent Gr1 Hong Kong Gold Cup victory is below.
