Fenway Wins Gr1 Vinery Stud Stakes
At Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, Coolmore's deceased dual Derby-winning shuttler & 6-time Gr1 victor High Chaparral (Sadler's Wells-Kasora, by Dashaan) celebrated a Gr1 success when 3YO filly Fenway (High Chaparral-Deedra, by Zabeel) scored by 0.2-length for trainers Lee and Shannon Hope in the $400,000 Gr1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) for 3YO fillies, over fellow fillies First Seal (Fastnet Rock-Episode, by Scenic) & Thunder Lady (Mastercraftsman-Thunderchine, by Thunder Gulch). This was the first stakes victory for Fenway who took her record to 2 wins and 1 placing (including the Gr2 Wakeful Stakes) from 6 starts for $299,600 earnings. The victory was an emotional one for jockey Blake Shinn, as it was his first Gr1 winner for his step father Lee Hope. "The only other person I wish could be here is my step-dad, but unfortunately he had to stay and do the work back at Kilmore," Shinn told Sky Racing. "I'm sure he will be really chuffed. He has worked so hard for a result like this and so has Shannon." He added, "They have worked just as hard as I have. They are great trainers in their own right and this means so much to me. It's a fairy tale to get the result for them." The beautifully bred Fenway is by High Chaparral out the Zabeel mare Deedra, a half sister to Gr1 winners Tuesday Joy and Sunday Joy (dam of More Joyous) and a granddaughter of celebrated blue hen Denise's Joy. Bred by John Singleton's Strawberry Hill Stud, Fenway was a $700,000 purchase by Colm Santry at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. "She has an amazing pedigree and even more importantly she had the amazing physical conformation as well," Santry told Sky Racing. "Greg and Jenny White (owners) entrusted me to find them a filly and I thought she was the filly of the year."
