Hartnell Wins Gr1 The BMW

At Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, triple Gr1-winning former English Derby victor & Darley shuttler Authorized (Montjeu-Funsie, by Saumarez) celebrated a Gr1 triumph when 4YO UK-bred gelding Hartnell (Authorized-Debonnaire, by Anabaa) scored by 1.3-lengths for trainer John O'Shea in the $1.5 million Gr1 The BMW (2400m) for 3YO+, over 4YO Japanese entire To The World (King Kamehameha-To the Victory, by Sunday Silence) & 7YO gelding Beaten Up (Beat Hollow-Frog, by Akarad). The Godolphin-owned Hartnell took his record to 7 wins (including the Gr3 Sky High Stakes & Gr3 Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket) and 5 placings (including the Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes & Gr1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud) from 16 starts for $1,403,610 earnings. "Doing the form there looked to be two very special horses here today and when they cleared out it was very exciting," O'Shea told Sky Racing. "They (Godolphin) have a lot of time invested into what goes on here, it is a big team performance." O'Shea confirmed that Hartnell would now head to the $1.6 million Gr1 Sydney Cup (3200m) at Royal Randwick on 11 April. Runner-up To The World is expected to line up in the $4 million Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on the same day for which he is a $4.60 favourite behind Contributer at $3.50.
