Hauraki Wins Gr2 Tulloch Stakes
At Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, Darley's unbeaten multiple Gr1-winning stallion Reset (Zabeel-Assertive Lass, by Zeditave) added a Group success when 3YO Godolphin colt Hauraki (Reset-Youthful Presence, by Dehere) scored by 2.5-lengths for trainer John O'Shea in the $175,000 Gr2 Tulloch Stakes (2000m) for 3YO c&g, over 3YO geldings Omeros (High Chaparral-Satin Robes, by Ne Coupez Pas) & Merion (O'Reilly-Sapphire Belle, by Danske). This was the first stakes victory for Hauraki who took his record to 3 wins and 1 placing (the Gr2 Phar Lap Stakes) from 6 starts for $203,660 earnings. Trainer John O'Shea said that Hauraki would back up next Saturday in the Gr1 Australian Derby (2400m) at Royal Randwick on the opening day of The Championships. "I thought he was pretty strong through the line here today," O'Shea told Sky Racing. "We have always felt that he could win a Derby and we were trying to be a little greedy in trying to win an Australian Guineas along the way but that didn't quite work out. Hopefully next Saturday he acquits himself well." From the Dehere mare Youthful Presence, Hauraki is a half-brother to Gr1 South Australian Derby winner Kidnapped, Gr2 West Australian Guineas winner Academus, and Listed winner Deledio, and is a direct descendant of Klairessa, dam of legendary broodmare Eight Carat, champion European sprinter Habibti, and great grand-dam of Gr1 winners Bonanova, Fraternity and Telesto.
