Lucky Hussler Wins Gr1 William Reid Stakes
At Moonee Valley in Melbourne, triple Gr1-winning stallion Husson (Hussonet-Villa Elisa, by Roy) celebrated a Gr1 success when 5YO gelding Lucky Hussler (Husson-Talaq Dancer, by Black Hawk) scored by 1.25-lengths for trainer Darren Weir in the $400,000 Gr1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) for 3YO+, over 5YO mare Vain Queen (Artie Schiller-Our Teneriffe, by Kenvain) & 4YO mare Griante (Good Journey-Grand Strategy, by Strategic). Lucky Hussler took his record to 6 wins (including the Gr3 Moonga Stakes, Gr3 Vo Rogue Plate & Gr3 BRC George Moore Stakes) and 7 placings (including the Gr1 Emirates Stakes, Gr2 Queensland Guineas, Listed Headquarters Tavern Stakes & Listed Daybreak Lover Stakes) from 26 starts for $890,600 earnings. Consigned by Monarch Stud, Lucky Hussler was a $100,000 purchase by Valley View Heights Management Services Pty Ltd at the 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. "I think that Weiry should have had him two seasons ago, he would have won a few more Group 1s," winning jockey Glenn Boss told Sky Racing. "I was pretty confident and I said to Weiry that I could not believe the price that this horse is because he is a pretty dynamic sprinter." Trainer Darren Weir said that Lucky Hussler was a chance of running in Saturday's Gr1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick before embarking on a Brisbane winter campaign.
