Pornichet Wins Gr3 Neville Sellwood Stakes

Monday, 30th March 2015

At Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, 4YO French-bred entire Pornichet (Vespone-Porza, by Septieme Ciel) registered his second stakes victory since arriving in Australia when scoring by 1.8-lengths for trainer Gai Waterhouse in the $150,000 Gr3 Neville Sellwood Stakes (2000m) for 3YO+, over 7YO UK-bred gelding Our Voodoo Prince (Kingmambo-Ouija Board, by Cape Cross) & 5YO gelding Hawkspur (Purrealist-Mollyhawk, by Catbird). Pornichet, who is raced by a syndicate that includes Mt Hallowell Stud and Segenhoe Thoroughbreds, took his record to 5 wins (including the Gr3 Sandown Stakes) and 3 placings (including the Gr1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains) from 13 starts for $349,248 earnings. Trainer Gai Waterhouse said that Pornichet would back up in Saturday's $3 million Gr1 Doncaster Mile at Royal Randwick. "This horse is going to the Doncaster," Waterhouse told Sky Racing. "He is very exciting. I loved the way Blake (jockey Blake Shinn) just had him third on the fence, before the turn he just slid out and just exploded. He was the winner from the top of the straight." She added, "I have always had a big opinion of him."
