Sole Power Wins Gr1 Al Quoz Sprint
At Meydan racecourse in Dubai, 8YO gelding Sole Power (Kyllachy-Demerger, by Distant View), Britain's reigning 5-furlong sprint king, won his first race outside the British Isles when scoring by 0.5-length for trainer Eddie Lynam in the US$1 million Gr1 Al Quoz Sprint (1000m) for 3YO+, over 3YO Irish-bred gelding Peniaphobia (Dandy Man-Umlani, by Great Commotion) & 4YO US-bred entire Green mask (Mizzen Mast-Bonsai Beauty, by Forestry). Sole Power who took his record to 11 wins (including the Gr1 King's Stand Stakes - twice & Gr1 Nunthorpe Stakes) and 13 placings (including the Gr1 Al Quoz Sprint, Gr1 Hong Kong Sprint, Gr1 King's Stand Stakes & Gr1 Nunthorpe Stakes) from 47 starts. Lynam is already thinking of a return to Royal Ascot, where Sole Power claimed his second successive King's Stand Stakes last summer, reports the irishtimes.com. "He's put his CV up for (leading) European sprinter today," Lynam said. "He's just come to himself. On his day, he was always capable of doing it. If I could, I'd love him to do it at Royal Ascot as well."
