Monday, 30th March 2015

At Awapuni in New Zealand, Gr1-winning NZ Haunui Farm shuttler Elusive City (Elusive Quality-Star Of Paris, by Dayjur) added a black-type success when 3YO colt Vespa (Elusive City-Miss Avalon, by Fantastic Light) scored by 1.5-lengths for trainer Johno Benner in the NZ$50,000 Listed Flying Handicap (1400m) for 3YO+, over 3YO filly Angelica Hall (Guillotine-Greta Hall, by Kaapstad) & 4YO mare Miss Foxwood (Fastnet Rock-Foxwood, by Centaine). Vespa took his record to 7 wins (including the Gr1 Diamond Stakes, Gr2 Wellington Guineas, Listed Westbury Stud Challenge Stakes & RL Karaka Million) & 3 placings (including the Gr3 Eclipse Stakes) from 12 starts for NZ$771, 675 earnings. Vespa was purchased by Cavallo Agistment Centre for NZ$34,000 at the 2013 NZB Select Yearling Sale from the draft of Valachi Downs. Trainer Johno Brenner said that Vespa would have his next start in next month's Gr1 Easter Handicap at Ellerslie. "He looks good for the Easter Handicap now," Benner told NZ Racing Desk. "Ellerslie for mine is a soft mile and he'll improve, there's a lot more to come."
