Savaria Well Ahead Of Oaks

Tuesday, 31st March 2015

Awapuni filly Savaria (Savabeel-Amathea, by O'Reilly) hasn't missed a beat since her outstanding victory in the Gr1 New Zealand Oaks, reports NZ Racing Desk. The daughter of Savabeel made an appearance on her home track on Saturday and thrilled trainer Roydon Bergerson when accompanied by stakes performer Waikaha in an exhibition gallop. "They scooted over 1200 metres and broke 1.18 so it was good work," Bergerson said. Regular rider and Trentham classic winning-jockey Hayden Tinsley rode Savaria, but an Australian jockey will be engaged for the $1 million Gr1 Australian Oaks at Randwick on 11 April. "I've put a few options to the owners and left the rider up to them," Bergerson said. "They will make a decision later in the week and I've spoken to Hayden and he's fine with it. He thinks she's going as well now as she was before Trentham." Raced by Taranaki couple Des and Kay Fleming, Savaria is booked to fly to Sydney on Wednesday week.
