Vancouver: $40M Stud Deal Imminent
The Daily Telegraph has reported that a leading Hunter Valley nursery is close to purchasing unbeaten Golden Slipper winner Vancouver (Medaglia d'Oro-Skates, by Danehill) in a stud deal thought to be worth $40 million. The colt's owners have fielded numerous offers from local and overseas breeding operations but a NSW stud farm is believed to be the front runner to secure the beautifully bred colt. Trainer Gai Waterhouse is being tight-lipped on the deal, but a breeding industry source said the sale should be completed within days. By Darley's world-class stallion Medaglia d'Oro, sire of champion US mare Rachel Alexandra, Vancouver hails from one of the most successful families in the Australian Studbook. He is a half-brother to Gr1 winner Juste Momente (Giant's Causeway) and Listed winner Captain Coltish (Fusaichi Pegasus) from the Danehill mare Skates, a grey daughter of top-class racemare Skating. A winner of the Gr1 Doncaster Handicap and Gr1 Coolmore Classic, Skating (At Talaq) has gone on to be just as successful at stud producing Gr3 Skyline Stakes winner Murtajill, Canonbury Stakes winner Bradbury's Luck, and June Stakes winner Sunset Run. Vancouver has won all four of his starts to date, namely the Gr1 Golden Slipper, Gr2 Todman Stakes, Gr3 Canonbury Stakes & Listed Breeders' Plate for $2,362,000 prize money. Following his Golden Slipper victory he was sent straight to the spelling paddock to prepare for a spring campaign that will include Gr1 targets such as the Golden Rose, Caulfield Guineas and Cox Plate.
