Amazing Maria Wins Gr1 Prix Rothschild

Monday, 3rd August 2015

At Deauville in France, 4-time Gr1-winning Windsor Park Stud shuttler & former European Champion 2YO Mastercraftsman (Danehill Dancer-Starlight Dreams, by Black Tie Affair) celebrated a Gr1 success when 4YO mare Amazing Maria (Mastercraftsman-Messias da Silva, by Tale of the Cat) scored by 1.25-lengths for trainer David O'Meara in the €300,000 Gr1 Prix Rothschild (8 furlongs) for 3YO+ f&m, over 3YO filly Ervedya (Siyouni-Elva, by King's Best) & fellow 4YO mare Bawina (Dubawi-Esneh, by Sadler's Wells). This was successive Gr1 victories for the reformed Amazing Maria who took her record to 5 wins (including the Gr1 Falmouth Stakes, Gr2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes & Gr3 Prestige Stakes) and 3 placings from 12 starts for nearly £400,000 earnings. "It's brilliant. She was unbelievable today," trainer David O'Meara told Sky Sports. "She is obviously a very good filly. There was probably some doubt about whether she was truly a Group One filly after Ascot, but she's done it again twice since then and you'd have to say she's among the best fillies in Europe now." O'Meara said Amazing Maria was likely to have her next start in the Gr1 Matron Stakes at Leopardstown on September 12.
