Impressive South African Debut Winner For Charge Forward

Monday, 3rd August 2015

Arrowfield Stud stallion Charge Forward produced an impressive winner in South Africa overnight when 3YO filly Leila's Charger saluted on debut in an 1160m maiden at Turffontein. The Dominic Zaki-trained filly lived up to her name when bounding clear under a largely hands and heels ride by jockey Craig Zackey to score a cosy 5-length win over fellow 3YO fillies Rain In Africa and Honolua Bay. Purchased by Heritage Bloodstock for $26,000 at the 2014 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the draft of Arrowfield Stud, Leila's Charger is out of the Irish-bred mare Lilanda (Grand Lodge) and is a half-sister to the winning Singapore galloper Sweet Lodge (Danzero). Bred by the Aga Khan Studs, Lilanda hails from the family dual Gr1 winner and sire Linngari, Prix de Saint Cloud winner Akarad, and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Akiyda. Charge Forward stands at Arrowfield Stud at a fee of $16,500 inc. GST.
