Short Break For Golden Horn

Monday, 3rd August 2015

John Gosden believes that missing last month's King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot may be a "blessing in disguise" for star galloper Golden Horn, reports At The Races. The unbeaten Derby and Eclipse winner was withdrawn just hours before the time-honoured Gr1 event on account of the slow ground. But Gosden says the unplanned mini break may turn out to be advantageous when the colt lines up in the Gr1 Juddmonte International at York on August 19. "It will be the Juddmonte next and he 's happy and well," said Gosden. "He's been a busy boy, what with the Derby, Dante, Eclipse and the Feilden Stakes, so having a little break might be a blessing in disguise with lots of races still to come." He added: "You have to let them down at some point, mentally as much as physically - you can't keep them at fever pitch all the time. Fortunately he's like his father (Cape Cross) in that he has a fabulous mindset and is a laid-back dude."
