Epiphaneia Retired Due To Injury
Japan Cup winner Epiphaneia (Symboli Kris S-Cesario, by Special Week) has been retired after sustaining an injury in training, reports Racing Post. The son of Symboli Kris S won 6 of his 14 starts. Trainer Katsuhiko Sumii said: "Even if it could be cured, there would be too much risk of recurrence, so I don't think it would be the best move making him return to racing." He added: "I am looking forward to the days when I challenge the first class races of the world with his sons and daughters in the near future." Epiphaneia, whose only other Gr1 success came in the 2013 Kikuka Sho at Kyoto, was rated the second best racehorse in the world last year behind fellow Japanese galloper Just A Way, who he beat by 4-lengths in the Japan Cup. Epiphaneia will stand at Shadai Stallion Station in Hokkaido.
