Caulfield Cup Noms Boast 25 Internationals
When nominations closed yesterday for the 2015 Caulfield Cup in Melbourne, 209 entries had been received for the Gr1 race that is often viewed as the best form guide for the Gr1 Melbourne Cup. Among those entered were a significant group of 25 overseas competitors, three of them from Japan whose ill-fated Admire Rakti sprouted wings to take last year's spoils. Racing Victoria's executive general manager Greg Carpenter commented, "We are particularly pleased to see three Japanese horses, including the highly rated pair Fame Game and Hokko Brave, entered to defend Japan's crown in the Caulfield Cup." Referring to the 22 international trainers hoping to field a starter, Carpenter noted, "We have labelled this a year of transition when it comes to international participation in the Spring Racing Carnival and we have seen that reflected with entries from 12 international trainers who have yet to bring a runner to Melbourne."
