Pharoah Back On Top Of World Rankings
After dishing out a galloping lesson to his rivals in last weekend's Gr1 Haskell Stakes – sometimes referred to as the unofficial 4th leg of the US Triple Crown – champion 3YO American Pharoah is now officially top dog of the world rankings. Global authority Timeform has the 3YO colt on a new figure of 136 reports theguardian.com, with the ratings company's US expert predicting that the track star could surpass the 138 mark set by Cigar which stands as the highest benchmark by an American galloper. UK high-rated 3YO Golden Horn, scratched last weekend prior to Ascot's Gr1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes due to a heavy track, is now on 133 (provisional). Comparisons are being made with the world's highest rated horse Frankel who earned a mind-boggling rating of 147. While there is a chance American Pharoah could compete next at his home track Del Mar in the Pacific Classic, trainer Bon Baffert intimated that he'd prefer to keep the glamour horse within his own age group, and set him for the Travers Stakes at Saratoga instead, even though it means another long trip to the US East coast.
