Connections Considering San Domenico For King's Troop
He may only be a little fella, but the manner of yesterday's victory at Warwick Farm for 3YO colt King's Troop (Redoute's Choice-Royal Snippets, by Snippets) suggested a very bright future for the three-quarter brother to Arrowfield Stud's high profile stallion Snitzel. Despite the $1.35 starting price following an exciting debut second to hat-trick winner Japonisme, King's Troop was no gimme given the way the race was run, his opposition giving him little peace as jockey Brenton Avdulla worked to secure the lead. Displaying an economical daisy-cutting galloping action, King's Troop careered away in the straight before being allowed to ease down close to home. The race time was half a second faster than the fillies' division held one race later (see next item). Obviously satisfied with the performance, trainer Gerald Ryan suggested that King's Troop could head straight to the Gr3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m), a race in which Snitzel himself finished third in 2005. Failing that, he could be sent for a spell and given time to grow.
