Sandown Race Return Gets Solid Pass Mark

Thursday, 6th August 2015

After a hiatus of four months, racing resumed to Melbourne's Racing Club's Sandown venue yesterday with the eight-race card getting a solid pass mark despite showery conditions for the Hillside circuit return, reports racing.com. Racecourse manager Tim Bailey expressed his satisfaction, saying that while the inclement conditions presented an added challenge, it was also a good test for the track. He was particularly pleased that horses throughout the day were up to winning on the fence, normally unusual during the winter. The track was completely reinvigorated after its Easter meeting, and then allowed time to rest. This meant the transfer of 12 race meetings to other Victorian venues, whose generosity was acknowledged by the MRC's Jake Norton, but the wait appears to have been worth it for the State's thoroughbred industry. Sandown will host another three meetings before its Zipping Classic Sandown Guineas race day on November 14.
