Doomben Cup Runner-Up Fancied For Missile

Friday, 7th August 2015

Despite dropping back dramatically in distance from his last start runner-up in the 2000m Gr1 Doomben Cup, there is enough early money around to suggest that imported 5YO gelding Weary (Astronomer Royal-America Nova, by Verglas) is a strong chance in tomorrow's Gr2 Missile Stakes (1200m) at Randwick. The Arqana Sales graduate from France is no stranger to first up sprint success, the Chris Waller entrant having won the 1200m Expressway Stakes when fresh last prep. Classy Messene is strongly fancied and only needs to be close to his best to give the race a shake, but he has been out for almost a year and might need the run. Having run strongly in a Randwick trial, Queensland raider Temple Of Boom is expected to provide the locals with plenty of cheek, while Burbero will be hitting the line hard.
