Japan's Arc Aspirations Left To Just One Contender

Friday, 7th August 2015

Meanwhile, after initially starting the trail towards this year's Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe Stakes with five genuine possibilities, the land of the rising sun has had its hopes dashed to the extent that there is now just one genuine contender with prospects of racing in France's showcase event. According to the Japan Racing Association, the country has had representation in the Arc for each of the past five years which yielded runner-ups for Nakayama Festa (2010) and Orfevre (both 2012 & 2013). Sadly, due to a number of unforeseen mishaps, each of Duramente, Real Steel, Epiphaneia & One and Only has succumbed to circumstances that have thwarted an Arc bid. As a result, just high class 3YO filly Rouge Buck is still a live chance to make the trip.
