Trainers Lodge Appeals Against Withheld Cobalt Prize Money
Two of the trainers caught up in racing's cobalt saga have lodged appeals against having their share of Group & Listed prize money withheld until such time as a finding is handed down. According to theage.com.au, both "Mark Kavanagh and Danny O'Brien will appeal the Stewards' ruling…" The appeal follows the imposition of the prize money ruling on Tuesday, even though Stewards had considered standing down the five trainers (two are in partnership) pending the outcome of the charges. Trainers Lee and Shannon Hope, and Peter Moody, have not appealed the ruling on their trainers' percentage. The report suggests that, if found guilty of the cobalt charges, the trainers could be outed for three years. A date is yet to be fixed for the appeals to be heard.
