Air Force Blue Wins Gr1 Phoenix Stakes
Coolmore's Air Force Blue (War Front-Chatham, by Maria's Mon) had his quote cut to as short as 10-1 for next year's 2000 Guineas after scoring an impressive win in the Gr1 Phoenix Stales at the Curragh in Ireland overnight. The 2YO son of War Front showed good improvement from his last outing when second behind Buratino in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot to score by 2-lengths over stable-mate and fellow 2YO colt Washington DC (Zoffany-How's She Cuttin', by Shinko Forest) with Godolphin's Buratino (Exceed and Excel-Bergamask, by Kingmambo) back in third. "He came forward well from Ascot. He won his maiden here and didn't learn a lot, and was a baby going to Ascot," trainer Aidan O'Brien told Sky Sports. "He settled, travelled and quickened up well today, and he was very professional." He added: "He put it to bed very quickly and he galloped out well. He has a few options now, including the Prix Morny." Air Force Blue, who was a US$490,000 Keeneland September buy, took his record to 2 wins and 1 placing from 3 starts for £137,272 earnings.
