Promising Intilaaq Continues Progression

Monday, 10th August 2015

Exciting colt Intilaaq (Dynaformer-Torrestrella, by Orpen) is likely to be aimed at the Champion Stakes on British Champions Day after running out an easy winner of the Gr3 Rose of Lancaster Stakes at Haydock on Saturday. The Roger Varian-trained 3YO made it 3 wins from 5 starts when bounding clear to score by 5-lengths over Master Carpenter & Fire Fighting in the 2100m feature. Angus Gold, racing manager to winning owner Hamdan Al Maktoum, all but ruled out the Juddmonte International saying the Gr1 Champion Stakes at Ascot on 17 October was a more suitable target. "I would say that the Juddmonte may come too quick, but it is up the Sheikh what he does," Gold told Sky Sports. "I think he is a really good horse and see him being a Mukhadram-type horse who will improve with another winter on his back." He added: "The Champion Stakes is an obvious target as I think we are heading towards that level. Whether we give him a run before that or train him just for that race, I am unsure at this stage."
