Hyett Cleared By RAD Board

Wednesday, 12th August 2015

Former Aquanita stable employee Tania Hyett has been cleared by the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board, reports Racing.com. Hyett was charged with placing lay bets on horses trained by Robert Smerdon between 20 December last year and 17 April this year, while employed by the stable. However, the RAD Board found the partner of suspended jockey Danny Nikolic had no case to answer. "The Board, having arrived at its decision, which is based on the interpretations of the rules, wishes to make it quite clear that it in no way condones the conduct of the kind which has been demonstrated in this case," Judge Russell Lewis said. "The Board strongly suggests that the stewards consider an amendment to the rules to cover the vacuum situation which has arisen in this case." A relieved Hyett said she appreciated the RAD Board's handling of the matter. "Under the racing rules stewards have the power to investigate, charge and prosecute alleged breaches. Thank God there exists a board to keep them in check otherwise there would be a lot more of this going on," Hyett said. "The way in which this matter was handled and reported publicly, including aspects of my personal life, has been very disappointing."
