The States Salutes On Debut

Wednesday, 12th August 2015

Team Hawkes unveiled a promising type when the aptly named The States won on debut in a 1200m maiden plate at Geelong yesterday. The son of All American and Lodore Falls (Redoute's Choice) showed a good turn of foot in the straight to overpower runaway leader Irish Saturday to score by 0.2-length with Godolphin colt Etymology back in third. Bred by Arrowfield Stud, The States was purchased for $135,000 by PFG Racing at the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. His second dam is New Zealand Gr2 winner Lodore Magic, dam of Gr2 Jayco Crystal Mile (now Schweppes Crystal Mile) winner Sonic Quest. "We have about half a dozen...like them, I've always liked them," Hawkes said of All American's progeny. "They take a bit of time to come right but we had a really good one called Invisible that won his first start at Canterbury and then was one of the favourites for the Magic Millions and all but broke his leg in the race." All American stands at Arrowfield at a fee of $11,000 inc GST.
