Connections Delighted With Kawi Jump-Out
A successful return from Gr1 performer Kawi (Savabeel-Magic Time, by Volksraad) this weekend would not surprise Wanganui jockey Johnathon Parkes, reports NZ Racing Desk. Parkes was sporting a broad grin as he dismounted the high-class Allan Sharrock-trained 5YO after he won a jump-out at Hawera on Tuesday, an effort that has boosted the jockey's confidence levels going into Saturday's Gr2 Lisa Chittick Foxbridge Plate (1200m) at Te Rapa. "I was really, really happy with the horse," Parkes said. "He jumped out super. It was just a quiet hitout and he did it all under his own steam. He still won it but I never asked him for his full effort and there was plenty left in the tank." He added: "I jumped off and was pretty happy and so was Allan. I'm pretty excited about riding him on Saturday." Sharrock will use the Foxbridge Plate as a springboard into the Triple Crown series at Hastings of the Makfi Challenge Stakes (1400m) on August 29, the Windsor Park Plate (1600m) on September 19 and the Livamol Classic (2040m) on October 5. He told the Taranaki Daily News he was delighted with Kawi's jump-out. "He was bolting at the 800m and went to the line under his own steam. That's all I wanted from him today and I couldn't be happier with him at this stage of his preparation."
