Devil Hawk Gr1 Bound

Thursday, 13th August 2015

Trainer Chris Waller says that Devil Hawk, a full-brother to Queensland Derby winner Hawkspur, will attempt to emulate his big brother this spring after opening his account at Canterbury yesterday. Waller said the Purrealist colt would be given his chance at Gr1 level in the Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) in October after watching him charge home to score by 2-lengths over stable-mate Metallic Crown and Trick Star in the Schweppes Plate over 1250m. "This horse is stronger (than Hawkspur) at the same age," Waller told Sky Racing. "Hawkspur took about ten races to win his maiden. It's hard to compare, but he's got the ability." From the Catbird mare Mollyhawk, Devil Hawk hails from the family of Gr1 Oakleigh Plate winner and successful sire Zephyr Bay (Biscay).
