Alpine Eagle To Resume In Penny Edition
Trainer Tony McEvoy says Alpine Eagle's impressive barrier trial at Morphettville last week indicated to him the exciting galloper would be best suited resuming in Saturday week's Listed Penny Edition Stakes (1400m) in Adelaide, reports Racing.com. "The main goal of the trial was not to see how he's going but where his fitness was and we certainly achieved that," McEvoy told RSNs Racing Ahead yesterday. "He had a good blow and it made up my mind to wait an extra week and not run him in the Lawrence. It was a lovely trial, he was really tested by the tempo of the trial over 1000m but I thought he was fantastic and he's come through it beautifully." Following the Penny Edition, McEvoy said the son of High Chaparral would race second-up in the Gr1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington. "Three weeks after the Penny Edition he'll run in the Makybe Diva, which was the scene of his biggest run over the mile at Flemington in the Australian Guineas," McEvoy said. "We'll come through the Makybe Diva and then make up our mind about whether we go onto the Underwood and which route we'll take through to the Cox Plate."
