Lees Excited By Goldstream

Friday, 14th August 2015

Newcastle trainer Kris Lees says he is looking forward to getting his first glimpse of unbeaten Italian colt Goldstream (Martino Alonso-Imco Imagination, by Darshaan) when he lines up in the Gr1 Secretariat Stakes (10 furlongs) at Arlington in the US tomorrow, reports AAP. Goldstream, a winner of his only five starts to date, was purchased by Australian Bloodstock after winning the Italian Derby in May and will be transferred to Lees' Broadmeadow base following a light Australian spring campaign. "Goldstream will join our stable after the Melbourne spring carnival," Lees said. "I felt this was a good opportunity to go to the States and have a close look at him." He added: "Obviously, he is a young horse with a lot of ability, and it will be interesting to see how he shapes up in the Secretariat." Currently prepared by German trainer Andreas Wohler, Goldstream has been entered for both the Caulfield Cup (2400m) and Cox Plate (2040m) in the spring.
