Mongolian Khan Crowned NZ Horse of the Year
At a gala event held in Hamilton, New Zealand, last night, now 4YO entire Mongolian Khan (Holy Roman Emperor-Centafit, by Centaine) was crowned Horse of the Year after winning both the Australian and New Zealand Derbies last season. Mongolian Khan, who also snared the Champion 3YO and Champion Stayer categories, has won 7 of his 9 starts for $1,908,333 earnings, and is expected to resume in next month's Gr1 Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington. The night was also a triumph for his trainers Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman, whose record-breaking 113 winners, including 17 at Group or Listed level, saw them win the Trainer of the Year award. Their strike rate of 4.83 was unmatched by any other trainer in the top 60 on the premiership.
