Sibling To Gr1 Winner Scores On Debut
Well-bred Godolphin filly Pearls made an impressive start to her career when saluting on debut in the Boral Timber 3YO Maiden Handicap (1200m) at Gosford yesterday. A homebred for Darley by Exceed And Excel out of the Singspiel mare Accessories, Pearls is a full-sister to Gr1 Caulfield Guineas winner Helmet, a three-quarter sister to Gr1 Doomben 10,000 winner Epaulette (Commands), and a half-sister to Gr3 winner Bullbars (Elusive Quality). Ridden by young jockey Sam Clipperton, Pearls settled midfield before making her move approaching the turn where she let down with a smart turn of foot reminiscent of her illustrious siblings to score by a length over fellow debutant Gendebien and the Team Hawkes-trained Elemenohpee. "She had a good education leading into the race. I really liked the way she lengthened without too much difficulty," Godolphin racing manager Darren Beadman said. "She's a little racehorse… very loose-actioned type of filly and takes everything in her stride." Winning jockey Sam Clipperton was also taken with the manner of Pearls win. "She was very impressive," he said. "She had a lot of work to do on straightening chasing two of the main chances but she did so with relative ease." He added: "Once she balanced up she really hit the line. It was a great indication that she's going to run a longer distance."
