American Pharoah Works At Del Mar

Monday, 17th August 2015

Triple Crown champion American Pharoah had his first workout since winning the Gr1 Haskell Invitational earlier this month when breezing four furlongs at Del Mar yesterday, reports Blood Horse. American Pharoah worked solo in front of a crowd of about 800 people after officials closed the track temporarily for him and horses training for the Gr1 Pacific Classic. "He went nice; like he always does," trainer Bob Baffert said. "I think this empty track today allowed him to relax some. When he's got horses all around him, he gets keyed up." Track rider Martin Garcia was effusive in his praise of American Pharoah. "He was just cruising," said Garcia. "It's like he's still getting better and better. This horse is unbelievable." Baffert said American Pharoah is scheduled to work again in seven days after which he will decide whether to run in the Gr1 Travers Stakes on 29 August.
