Arqana Deauville Yearling Sale: €2.6M For Dubawi Colt
A colt by Dubawi smashed the 13 year-old record price for a yearling sold at Deauville in August when knocked down to Sheikh Mohammed for €2.6 million on Sunday, reports Racing Post. The colt (Lot 111) is the first foal of the Gr3-winning Montjeu mare Pacifique, a half sister to grand producer Prudenzia, dam of Irish Oaks winner Chicquita. "It's nothing to do with breaking records and big prices," said Sheikh Mohammed's bloodstock adviser John Ferguson. "I work for Sheikh Mohammed and he wanted this colt." He added: "He is a great-looking horse and we're delighted to get him. He is a remarkable athlete, one of the best I've seen, and by an exceptional stallion out of an exciting young broodmare. The colt had it all." Another anticipated highlight of the day was the sale of the sister to dual Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine Treve who was offered by the Head family. The Head family gave buyers a rare opportunity to purchase such a beautifully bred filly but the market did not meet her reserve with no one willing to bid higher than €1.2 million. The daughter of Motivator and Anabba mare Trevise will return home to the Heads' Haras du Quesnay. Criquette Head said: "She'll come back to Quesnay and then join me, but people are already trying to buy her privately." Asked whether the filly was still for sale, she replied: "Only if people are prepared to give me what we want."
