Key Dates Announced For Eagle Farm
The Brisbane Racing Club has confirmed key dates in the final phase of the Eagle Farm track redevelopment. BRC chairman Neville Bell said the Club was now set to begin a project that will include the construction of two tunnels beneath the Eagle Farm track. The project is scheduled for completion before next year's Brisbane Racing Carnival, and follows the redevelopment of the Eagle Farm course proper which was completed in May. Trainers have been notified on the following key dates:
- September 11, 2015: Eagle Farm to close for trackwork as work begins on the pedestrian tunnel in the home straight and the vehicular tunnel at the 1000m point of the course proper
- Mid-November 2015: Eagle Farm to re-open for trackwork on a partial circuit. This will occur upon completion of the major part of the pedestrian tunnel.
- End of February 2016: Eagle Farm to re-open as a full circuit for trackwork on the completion of the major part of the vehicular tunnel.
- May 2016: Eagle Farm to re-open for racing ahead of the Brisbane Racing Carnival
Mr Bell said all trackwork would be held at Doomben from mid-September until mid-November. "We are already working closely with Eagle Farm trainers to determine the best way to operate trackwork at Doomben so that all horses are catered for," Mr Bell said. "Doomben cannot cater for as many horses as Eagle Farm during usual trackwork hours so we're discussing all possible solutions for this two-month period. The BRC is very mindful of the integral role that Eagle Farm plays as the state's premier training base. Six of the top eight metropolitan trainers were based here in the most recent racing season so we are doing everything possible to ensure the Queensland racing industry can rely on this training base during this construction work."
