River Wild Romps Home On Debut

Monday, 17th August 2015

Gai Waterhouse looks to have a genuine contender for some of the 3YO features in the spring after beautifully bred colt River Wild posted a eye catching debut victory at Kembla Grange on Saturday. By Fastnet Rock out of the Irish River mare Romantic River, River Wild is a three-quarter brother to Waterhouse's former top-class mare Aqua D'Amore (Danehill) and a full-brother to Gr2 Sandown Guineas winner Petrology. The 3YO, who was retained to race by Coolmore Stud after failing to reach his $350,000 reserve at last year's Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, looked a very exciting prospect in the making when sprinting clear for an impressive 6-length win in a 3YO maiden handicap over 1300m. Underscoring the strength of River Wild's win was his winning time of 1:16.48 and his final 600m sectional of 33.72 seconds which could have been even quicker had he not been eased in the concluding stages. Whatever connections have planned for River Wild one thing is for certain; his outing at Kembla on the weekend will be the first and last time the colt steps foot on a provincial track. This fellow is destined for the big time.
