Cockram Next For Vezalay

Tuesday, 18th August 2015

Trainer Troy Corstens says there is still improvement to come from smart mare Vezalay following her strong first-up win at Caulfield on Saturday. The 4YO daughter of Shamardal took her record to 2 wins from 6 starts with her victory in the Beveridge Williams Plate over 1100m and Corstens says he is excited about her prospects for the remainder of the spring. "She's come through the run really well, touch wood," Corstens told RSN radio yesterday. "She's quite a sound mare and she really bounced through the run. She's bright as a button." He added: "She'd only had the one run leading into the race so there' still improvement to come that's for sure." Corstens confirmed that Vezalay's next run would be in the Gr3 Cockram Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on 29 August before the Gr2 Let's Elope Stakes (1400m) at Flemington two weeks later. "It's full steam ahead to those two races at this stage and to be honest we haven't discussed anything after the Let's Elope, but a race such as the Sir Rupert Clarke [Gr1] would be an option but we'll wait and see," he said.
