Amanpour Return Delayed

Wednesday, 19th August 2015

Meanwhile, Gr1-winning Sydney mare Amanpour has had her racetrack return postponed due to a lack of fitness, reports racenet. The winner of last season's ATC Queen Of The Turf Stakes was scheduled to open her spring campaign in the Gr2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday, but trainer Gai Waterhouse says she is less than satisfied with the 5YOs condition. "I don't think she is quite fit enough and I would like to keep her another two weeks," Waterhouse told Sky Sports Radio yesterday. "She worked with Bohemian Lily this morning [Tuesday] and Bohemian just had the edge on her and I just felt that Amanpour needed a little bit more work." She added: "I hate to start my horses when they are not properly fit. I think you do more damage to them doing that." Amanpour, who will carry the red silks of Rosemont Stud this campaign after being purchased by the Victorian nursery for $1.5 million in May, is being aimed at the Gr1 Myer Classic (1600m) for fillies and mares at Flemington on 31 October. "This is a very, very exciting mare," Waterhouse said. "She looks a picture and her coat is gleaming." Amanpour has won 4 of her 18 starts hitherto for $892,000 prize money.
