Pornichet Excites Shinn

Thursday, 20th August 2015

Jockey Blake Shinn says he is excited about riding highly regarded import Pornichet when he resumes in the Gr2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday. The Gai Waterhouse-trained Pornichet, a brilliant winner of the Gr1 Doomben Cup in May, is being aimed at the Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup in the spring. "I feel heading towards the Cox Plate, Pornichet could be the next weight-for-age star of Australian racing," Shinn told ANZ Bloodstock News. "He's the horse I'm most excited about riding this carnival." He added: "I think he will get better as he gets into this prep and gets out to longer distances. But I expect him to sprint well fresh and show us on Saturday that he's come back in outstanding order." Pornichet, who is raced by Craig Thompson's Mt Hallowell Stud, has won 7 of his 16 starts hitherto for over $900,000 prize money.
