Sebring Sun Ready For Next Test

Thursday, 20th August 2015

Trainer Gary Portelli is confident that smart colt Sebring Sun can take the next step towards a start in the $1 million Gr1 Golden Rose at Randwick on Saturday, reports horseracing.com.au. The 3YO son of Sebring registered the first stakes victory of his career when scoring a brilliant win in the Listed The Rosebud (1200m) last start, and Portelli is hoping he can continue his progression through the grades when he lines up in Saturday's Gr3 Up And Coming Stakes over 1300m. "He certainly hasn't gone backwards and if anything he may have tightened up a bit," Portelli told Sky Racing Radio. "He has got to improve again, he goes up to 1300 metres and it is going to be a nice little test again for him this weekend to make sure he runs that out and if he does obviously we will take the big step and have a crack at the Group 1 [Golden Rose] with him." He added: "We have always thought that he was a pretty good colt, but sometimes they can come up a bit short but at this stage he is going in the right direction." Sebring Sun will be ridden by Hugh Bowman and will jump from barrier 5 in the field of eight.
