Turn Me Loose Pleases In Trial

Thursday, 20th August 2015

Co-trainer Andrew Forsman said Turn Me Loose appeared on track for his first-up assignment in the Gr1 Makfi Challenge Stakes at Hastings on Saturday week after finishing runner-up to Weregoingtogetcha in a 1200m trial at Taupo yesterday, reports theinformant.co.nz. "He was a bit fresh today and he's had a good blow," Forsman said of last season's New Zealand 2,000 Guineas winner. "He's got 10 days until the Makfi and a couple more good gallops should have him ready." He added: "Hopefully he's in for a long campaign, and he's a stallion, so we didn't want to have him too ready too soon. He'll take a lot of improvement off that run today." Turn Me Loose is currently the $4 favourite for the Makfi, a price Forsman believes may be overstating his prospects in the race. "A Group One over 1400 metres in his first start after such a long break won't be easy," he said. "To my way of thinking he'll be more of a mile to middle-distance horse at the top level in this campaign."
