Dabernig Happy With Top-Class Kiwi Mare

Friday, 21st August 2015

Meanwhile, David Hayes' nephew and training partner Tom Dabernig has provided an update on former New Zealand trained mare Rising Romance. Rising Romance was previously prepared by Kiwi trainer Donna Logan who guided her to 5 wins from 18 starts, including a victory in the Gr1 Australian Oaks and a second placing in last year's Gr1 Caulfield Cup. Dabernig said that Rising Romance would continue her spring preparations with a jump-out at Flemington today. "She's a great pick up for the stable. She's got a really good constitution and I've been pleased with her track work," Dabernig told Melbourne radio station RSN. "She will probably have two jump-outs and possibly run first-up at Flemington in the Let's Elope over 1400m." Dabernig said that jockey Dwayne Dunn was the stable's preference to partner Rising Romance in the spring. "We're trying to lock in Dwayne Dunn for the spring. Dwayne will ride her in the jump-out tomorrow [Friday]," he said. The Gr2 Let's Elope Stakes (1400m) for mares will be run at Flemington on 12 September.
