American Pharoah Confirmed For Travers
Triple Crown winner American Pharoah will head to Saratoga for the Gr1 Travers Stakes on Saturday after pleasing connections in a track gallop at Del Mar on Sunday, reports Blood Horse. "It was very positive," trainer Bob Baffert said after the champion colt impressed when breezing seven-furlongs in 1:23 1/5. "He always works well, but we wanted to see if he still has that energy level. It was a pretty incredible work and he's a pretty incredible horse." If American Pharoah lines up in the Travers as expected, the New York Racing Association will raise the total prize money for the race to US$1.6 million from US$1.25 million. Travers Day attendance will be capped at 50,000. "This is a great day for racing fans in Saratoga, across the state of New York, and throughout our nation," NYRA president and chief executive officer Christopher Kay said.
