Chautauqua Impress In Jump-Out

Monday, 24th August 2015

Star sprinter Chautauqua has pleased connections defeating Queensland Derby winner Magicool in an 800m jump-out at Flemington on Friday, reports Racing.com. The Gr1 winner is set to resume in the Gr1 Moir Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley on 2 October with his long-term aim being the Gr1 Hong Kong Sprint (1200m) at Sha Tin on 13 December. "He was good. He was a bit keen and a bit fresh but he did everything OK and did everything that we wanted him to do," co-trainer Wayne Hawkes said. "Everything has gone right with him so far, he's a very easy horse to train so it's just a matter of managing him." He added: "He'll hopefully end up in Hong Kong at Christmas time, the Aussie dollar is very poor which makes Hong Kong a very expensive race and that's the ultimate plan." Chautauqua has won 6 of his 14 starts hitherto, highlighted by his Gr1 success in the TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick in April.
