Well Sprung Wins Listed McKenzie Stakes

At Moonee Valley in Melbourne, Widden Stud's dual Gr1-winning stallion Star Witness (Starcraft-Leone Chiara, by Lion Hunter) added a black-type success when 3YO colt Well Sprung (Star Witness-Sprung, by Grand Slam) scored by 1.25-lengths for trainers Lyn & Leonie Proctor in the $120,000 Listed McKenzie Stakes (1200m) for 3YO c&g, over fellow 3YO colts Danuki (Exceed and Excel-Miduki, by Snippets) & Odyssey Moon (Snitzel-Run to the Moon, by Arch). This was the first stakes victory for Well Sprung who took his record to 1 win and 1 placing from 2 starts for $75,975 earnings. From the US-bred mare Sprung (Grand Slam), Well Sprung is a half brother to the David Hayes and Tom Dabernig-trained stakes winner Tawteen (Stratum) who was also a winner at Moonee Valley on Saturday.
