Horn May Head Straight To Arc

Wednesday, 26th August 2015

Golden Horn could go straight to the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe without another run if he does not get conditions to suit in the Gr1 Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on September 12, reports Sky Sports. The John Gosden-trained colt was not suited by the soft ground when surrendering his unbeaten record to Arabian Queen in last Wednesday's Gr1 Juddmonte International at York. Should it also get too wet at Longchamp, the Epsom Derby winner would still have the Gr1 Champion Stakes at Ascot a fortnight later as a viable option. "The plan now is to go to Ireland, where we hope they will have an Indian summer," said owner Anthony Oppenheimer. "Leopardstown is a very good track and drains very well so we hope the ground will be fine for him. If we cannot travel to Ireland because of the ground, that (going straight to the Arc) is a possibility." He added: "There is also the Champion Stakes to fall back on, so the horse still has plenty of options."
