Sargent Gives Gust Of Wind & Kirramosa Update
Randwick-based trainer John Sargent has provided an update on two of his stable stars in Gust Of Wind and Kirramosa. Last season's Australian Oaks winner Gust Of Wind (Darci Brahma-Starrystarrynight, by Sadler's Wells) resumed with a pleasing effort in the Gr2 Warwick Stakes at Randwick last Saturday finishing ninth (beaten 4.1 lengths) behind fellow Australian Oaks winner Royal Descent. The Darci Brahma mare found the 1400m too short for her first-up assignment and will appreciate stepping up in distance at her next few starts. "It was a very good run. She was hitting the line nicely and came through the race very well," Sargent told AAP. "She might go to the Chelmsford in two weeks or go to Melbourne in three weeks for the Makybe Diva Stakes. I'll just see how she does and assess the fields in the next few weeks." Gust Of Wind's primary spring target is the Gr1 Melbourne Cup at Flemington on 3 November. Meanwhile, former VRC Oaks winner Kirramosa (Alamosa-Freyja, by Danske) showed she was on track for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups when resuming with a fast-finishing fifth in the Fairfield RSL Club Handicap (1200m) at Rosehill eleven days ago. "That was a great run. She'll go to the Mona Lisa at Wyong. She'll have 60.5kg so we'll put Blake Shinn on her. He won the Wakefield on her (as a 3YO)," said Sargent. "She's a class mare and I think that race will suit her. But the way she's come back, she's back to her form as a three-year-old the way I see it." He added: "She galloped over 1000m this morning with her stable-mate Thunder Lady and I was very happy with her." The Listed Mona Lisa Stakes (2100m) will be run at Wyong racecourse on Friday, 4 September.
