Fawkner Withdrawn From Memsie

Thursday, 27th August 2015

Caulfield Cup winner Fawkner (Reset-Dane Belltar, by Danewin) has been scratched from Saturday's Gr1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield after drawing wide in barrier 18, reports Racing.com. Co-owner Nick Williams said the 8YO would still head to Caulfield for an exhibition gallop before resuming in the Gr1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on 12 September.  "The club have been kind enough to let him have an exhibition gallop on the course proper so he still gets the benefit of the trip away and the race day experience," Williams said. "The problem we have with the horse is because he tries so hard, from barrier 18 he'd end up having a very hard run and that's not what you really want at the end of August." Williams said Fawkner would follow a similar path to last year and go second-up into the Gr1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) before the Cox Plate (2040m) on 24 October. "He'll run in the same races as last year except he definitely won't be running in the Melbourne Cup," he said.
