High Hopes For Snap's Son

Thursday, 27th August 2015

It's early days in the career of Snapshot (Stravinsky-Snap, by Kingdom Bay) but connections are hoping the well bred galloper can one day emulate his top-class mother, reports NZ Racing Desk. The unbeaten 5YO is a son of Stravinsky and former multiple Gr1-winning Kiwi mare Snap, who also finished third in the 1996 Telegraph Handicap. Snapshot won on debut at Te Aroha in the spring and struck again at Rotorua a month later before a break. He then returned in the autumn to win a Rating 75 race at Ellerslie to claim his hat-trick before a spell. "I'm happy with him and he'll have a quiet trial at Te Teko on Thursday before I set a programme for him," trainer Graham Richardson said. "He's a very good chance to go through the grades and around the Christmas period he could go to the Ellerslie carnival or Wellington, there's always the Telegraph and the Thorndon Mile." He added: "There's plenty of races for him once he gets the sunshine on his back." Bred by Henrietta Duchess of Bedford who races Snapshot with a syndicate that includes All Black captain Richie McCaw, the gelding was a December foal and hence the belated start to his career. "We've taken our time with him," Richardson said. "He was quite weak both physically and mentally, although he's come a long way since then."
