Turn Me Loose Ready For Makfi

Thursday, 27th August 2015

Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman say they won't be disappointed if Classic winner Turn Me Loose (Iffraaj-Indomitable, by Danehill) doesn't make a winning return in Saturday's Gr1 Makfi Challenge Stakes (1600m) at Hastings, reports NZ Racing Desk. Although confident in the 4YOs ability and happy with his condition leading into the race, the Cambridge trainers are wary of the fitness edge a number of his rivals will take into the weight-for-age feature. "I'm certainly not saying he can't win or anything like that, but there are a few that have had a run in the Foxbridge Plate," Forsman said. "He is definitely good enough and we will be gutted if he doesn't run well. He hasn't raced for a long time and colts can often take a bit more than what you think." he added: "We've got him exactly where we want him at this stage. It's his second-up run, wherever that might be, that will be the race that decides his future path." Turn Me Loose hasn't raced since landing the Gr1 New Zealand 2,000 Guineas in November after his Sydney autumn campaign was cut short by a virus. The son of Iffraaj has had two trials to prepare him for the Makfi before a possible trip to Melbourne for the Gr1 Toorak Handicap and Gr1 Cox Plate.
